Risca Primary’s Great Legend Swap

07/11/2023

There’s something rumbling beneath the hills of Risca. A snoring brother perhaps? Maybe a donut thieving horse? Or could it even be the sound of someone chewing up a hairy blue jellybean at the top of the stairs?

Nah!

It can only be Children’s Laureate Wales Alex Wharton launching Risca Primary’s Great Legend Swap.

Over the next half term, years five and six will be putting together their very own anthology of great legends with the help of the fabulous Eloise Williams, editor of The Mab.

Visiting today to kick things off was Mab contributor Alex Wharton, who sent hurricanes of inspiration through the school, with tales of dreaming kings and horrible hedgehogs in a spectacular display of word tennis with the students. Back and forth he batted rhythms and rhymes, twirling sticky, delicious words across the assembly hall until they danced on every tongue. By the end of the morning the walls buzzed with ideas, excited for the project ahead.

Thanks Alex for the incredible launch, and for Risca Primary for welcoming us. We look forward to seeing what you come up with next week!
