World Book Day 2022 with Lucy Owen

03/03/2022

It’s awesomely apt Ymaginosity got to kick off its first live event on World Book Day, thanks to Treharris Library and author Lucy Owen.

We started off the morning preparing to meet the Boo-A-Bog in the Community Centre with the local nursery, taking an imaginary trip to the park where more than a healthy amount of ice-cream was consumed, and colouring Boo-A-Bog pictures to show to Lucy when she arrived. Lucy was suitably impressed with the sheer volume of colour employed and engrossed us all reading her picture book ‘Boo-A-Bog in the Park’. We left the community centre mid-morning echoing with the frightening array of best monster voices Lucy had encouraged from her audience.

Next stop was the Reception classes at Edwardsville Primary, and considering the school had been taken over by Cruella Deville for the day, we received the friendliest welcome. The students were enraptured listening to extracts from all three of Lucy’s books, and excitedly shared their plans for volcanic houses and crocodiles for pets, whilst a handful of over-zealous Elsas repeatedly froze Lucy in ice. Luckily having new friends living in volcanoes meant she was quickly able to thaw out again.

All in all a fun time was had by everyone. Thanks to Wellbeing Merthyr for funding, and a happy World Book Day to all!
